Each horse owner should have their own general liability policy for their horse business and any trainer or someone who boards horses for others should have their own policy.  The third party liability offered through the Association and included for members as a benefit is Excess over any other liability insurance.  The intent of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Third Party Liabiity Policy is to provide Excess Liability coverage for its Members, but only in the capacity of racing or being in training at one of the designated pari-mutuel race tracks, racing fairground locations, and other specifically scheduled covered training centers. Training Centers with 50 or more Standardbred racehorses stabled can apply to be listed as a covered location on the Association’s Coverlink excess coverage third party liability policy as noted above in the Third Party Liability Insurance Section.

Click the link for the application for an individual primary policy with Coverlink.  It is important that the application be fully completed.   Someone who has the care, custody or control of horses owned by others, will also want to complete the section of the application for the Care, Custody or Control Liability to obtain protection for the death or injury to a non-owned horse should the horse owner take legal action against them due to injuries or death of their horse resulting from negligence in its care.  Upon application with Coverlink you will be rated and premium advised based on the application submitted.

Worker's Compensation Insurance Co-Op Information

All Ohio businesses are required to carry worker's compensation.  Any business that does not maintain workers compensation coverage on an employee of the business or declines coverage for themselves, may be personally responsible for costs and expenses for claims on a self-covered basis if State Worker's Compensation is not in place.

Ohio State Racing Commission administrative code requires Owners and Trainers carry Worker's Compensation for their businesses as a condition of licensure.

The Association offers a free, Member-Benefit partnership with Sedgwick for the most cost-effective coverage available.  Those that currently have coverage can also get a free, no-obligation review by simply completing the AC-3 form attached at the link.  Don't be without this important coverage required by law.  Call Kathy Redmond, Client Services Manager with Sedgwick at 614.376.5409.
